Oh for land’s sake!

Welcome to a North Country Girl’s blog! Note: No self-respecting feminist should call herself “girl,” but I’m doing it anyway, because I think it has more poetic appeal than “woman,” “person,” or any other noun, personal or general, that I could think of.
Why did I start this blog? To keep a record for myself and other interested parties of my time here. Why did I come to Fargo? To research how refugees impact and are impacted by this city, a space on the northern plains comprised of more than 90% white, mostly Christian people (more on the details of Fargo later, okay?). And because of the film. No, not really. In sum, I want to know what it means to be a good person in Fargo and what happens when people fit, or do not fit, that definition in terms of access to social services, housing, medical, occupational, and educational opportunities, etc. But there’s plenty of time for getting into the nitty-gritty of that project. First, let’s recap a bit about my journey here, where I have now lived for exactly one week…
Thanks for the pic, Courtney – who is on an amazing journey of her own right now!
